The Nelray house “lives large” while totaling a conservative and affordable 1300 sq ft. The open living/ dining/ kitchen and 9 ft ceilings on each floor contributes to a sense of spaciousness, as does the double height space and floor to ceiling windows in the living room. ma modular: Blanco River house complete

Aside from a few finishing touches, the “Blanco River” vacation house – a 3/2 located in Wimberley, TX – is complete! This $195 psf home is a shining example of ma modular’s mission to develop modern and affordable green built homes. The 1400 sq ft floor plan “lives” large. Space enhancing features include ten-foot ceilings, intelligently placed windows and large sliders that bring the outside in.

Green standards include 2×6 exterior walls, high efficiency Gerkin windows with thermally broken frames, a Galvilum double-lock standing seam metal roof and an Energy Star high efficiency Heating/Cooling system.

Beautifully sited under a giant Pecan along the Blanco River, this home is the perfect retreat from the city.

Village West: Progress Update

Our 2 bed, 2 bath 1000 sq ft house in West Austin is coming along beautifully! An existing home sat where the ma home sits today, except that it sat parallel to the street. When ma project designer, Alex Finnell (http://linkd.in/qJ3TH9), saw the shape of the lot (a pie with the long side to the street), he knew that if he placed the ma house perpendicular to the street, he could capture views overlooking the widest part of the lot. The difference is immediate and impressive. The lot feels 3x larger and the owner will be able to look upon a large expanse of trees and grass instead of the road.

The home’s butterfly roof allows for cathedral ceilings in both bedrooms, which are located on opposite ends of the house for privacy. The owner and her mother will be occupying the home, so accessibility was important, as were separate bathrooms with showers instead of tubs.

The home is scheduled to be complete in October.

The Ford house shares a floor plan with our Luna house (the first ma house), so sometimes it doesn’t receive the attention it deserves! We’re going to make up for that right now. These beautiful photos were composed by Chris Krager and taken by Allison Cartwright (www.twisttours.com). The Ford house is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath 1500 sq ft modular home with 500 sq ft of deckspace.

Today, more people than ever are looking for affordability, without sacrificing design. Accessible Design has been KRDB’s mantra for the past 10 years. As many of you know, Chris Krager and company offer the following design/build services:

Due to the number of projects transitioning from Design to Construction in the third quarter, we’ve hired a full-time construction manager (to be announced) and a new office manager, Kristina Etter! At the same time, after four years of dedicated contribution to KRDB, ma and SOL, one of our designer/project managers, Brad Deal, is moving on to a new position with Ryan Street & Associates. KRDB

East Side Inn — A renovation/addition to an East Austin bungalow transforming it from a residence into a 7 room boutique hotel with 2nd floor outdoor private and public courtyards. Contemporary new construction detailing and interiors compliment the preserved exterior shell of the 1925 Craftsman home. Fall finish date.

Brady — A renovation/addition to a 1964 AD Stenger residence nestled between a dense oak canopy in West Lake Hills. The 3 Bed, 3 Bath home includes a home office, garage, carport, panoramic views of the beautiful site and 600 sf of elevated public and private outdoor decks. Winter finish date.

Windsor — A bathroom renovation and garden addition to a handsome Lake Flato residence in Tarrytown. A generous glass shower enclosure blurs the line between indoors and out. The water feature, outdoor shower and fire pit create a serene, everyday retreat.

Kinney — New construction in the 78704 zip code: 3 Beds, 2.5 Baths with 1750 sf of conditioned living space and a 165 sf screened porch.

Wright — New construction down the street from Kinney: a 1400 sf 2 bedroom home + detached garage/studio fitted with a rainwater collection tank for irrigation.

Fire Island — After several months of planning the delivery route from our partner manufacturing plant in NY across the Great South Bay via barge to Fire Island, our 3 bedroom 2.5 bath summer home has graduated from Basic to Detailed Design!

KRDB + ma modular

Swinging K Ranch — A renovation to an existing house and two 2-bedroom ma modular bunkhouses. Due in part to it’s location on a ranch in Moulton, TX, our clients chose the modular home building process as a refreshing alternative to a long on-site construction process.
